Muhamad Izuan has been appointed Sustainability Manager at Sirru Fen Fushi in Shaviyani Atoll, Maldives

Muhamad Izuan

Sirru Fen Fushi - Private Lagoon Resort has announced the appointment of professional marine biologist Muhamad Izuan as its new Sustainability Manager, as it continues to strengthen its commitment to environmental preservation, on land and at sea.

A passionate and talented sustainability expert with more than 10 years’ experience with conservation organizations and luxury resorts, Izuan is a specialist in underwater megafauna – especially manta rays. This makes him the perfect person to oversee the ecological protection of Sirru Fen Fushi and guide guests in immersive educational activities.

A divemaster with a Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Sciences, Izuan has previously worked at Angsana Velavaru Maldives, where he pioneered a series of impactful initiatives, such as identification programs for turtles and manta rays and enhanced the coral restoration projects. He has volunteered at Four Seasons Resort Maldives and supported the coral restoration projects after 2016 coral bleaching event. He has also monitored manta ray habitats and populations in Indonesia’s Coral Triangle (especially Raja Ampat), which is recognized as a global centre of biodiversity.

Now, he is bringing his expertise and experience to Sirru Fen Fushi, which has made a long-term pledge to conservation. Izuan will spearhead the resort’s environmental activities, including coral propagation and wildlife monitoring, as well as leading inspiring eco-awareness projects for the resort’s guests. With his skills on megafauna identification and working closely with Olive Ridley turtle biologist representative here, Izuan will help the resort to track and care for the hawksbill and green turtles that nest on the resort’s beaches, while his manta ray expertise will make it even easier for guests to enjoy encounters with these graceful giants.

Izuan will also help to oversee the resort’s innovative facilities, such as The Coralarium, the world’s first tidal art installation which provides a breeding ground for coral and attracts many colourful local species, and The Sustainability Lab, the innovative recycling facility which transforms plastic waste into bespoke souvenirs and other ocean-themed creations.

At Sirru Fen Fushi, sustainability is more than a practice—it’s a way of life. From generating renewable energy with solar panels to pioneering innovative initiatives like the Maldives’ first resort-based recycling facility, the resort is committed to protecting its pristine environment and giving back to nature.

Guests can engage in activities that connect them to local culture and the natural world, from exploring a coral-breeding tidal art installation to participating in marine conservation efforts. Certified by Green Globe and recognized as a Leading Hotels of the World Sustainability Leader, Sirru Fen Fushi remains dedicated to reducing its carbon footprint while fostering a harmonious relationship with the environment.
