Zach and Kelly Stout

Known for its acclaimed recreation, commitment to approachable luxury blended seamlessly with the natural environment, and picturesque setting within the heart of Alpine County, Desolation Hotel Hope Valley announces the appointment of Zach and Kelly Stout as General Managers. As on-site residents of Desolation Hotel Hope Valley, the couple brings new meaning to the definition of full-service hospitality that is deeply rooted in community, team culture, and an appreciation for the region's long-standing legacy.

Seizing the opportunity post-pandemic to discover new horizons both professionally and geographically, the couple decisively chose to explore a mobile lifestyle and adopt "the van life," which led them to discover a variety of campgrounds and recreation meccas, including Sedona, Moab, Joshua Tree, and South Lake Tahoe - home of Desolation Hotel. After becoming campground guests themselves, Zach and Kelly immersed themselves with not only the region, but the property as a whole. In 2023, the pair joined the Desolation Hotel team as Campground Managers, overseeing the guest's journey on their own outdoor stays and natural explorations including hiking, mountain biking, fishing, canoeing, cross country skiing, and more.

Garnering a variety of hands-on experience, the couple previously held leadership roles in the hospitality and food and beverage industries. Zach supported the food and beverage management teams responsible for the openings of both The Last Hotel and LOEWS in St. Louis, Missouri, while Kelly concurrently managed notable St. Louis eateries including Retreat Gastropub, Yellowbelly, and entertainment venue The Dark Room.

In addition to continued leadership and exploration expertise of all recreation, the newly-appointed duo will oversee all operations of Desolation Hotel Hope Valley's expansive 165-acre property, including a variety of eco-luxury accommodations ranging from 28 distinctly unique cabins, 13 stunning camp sites, 11 outdoor yurts, and an Airstream trailer, in addition to amenities such as the Eastern European-style wood-fired sauna, and iconic restaurant Sorenson's.
